Men’s Lacrosse Falls In OT At Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Frostburg men's lacrosse team led by as many as three goals in the second half but endured an 8-7 setback in overtime at Mary Washington, Thursday.

Sophomore Jimmy Lucas scored twice and senior Keegan Colegrove scored once and handed out two assists as FSU fell to 4-6 overall and 0-2 in the CAC with the loss.

The Eagles improve to 6-4 overall and 2-0 in the league with their second-straight league victory.

Frostburg led 5-3 at halftime and Lucas's second tally of the game handed the visitors a 6-3 lead with 9:43 showing on the third quarter clock. Senior Nate Collins was credited with the assist.

Mary Washington closed the third with two goals inside the final 2:09 and the hosts opened the fourth with another goal at 11:38 to even the count at 6-6.

Colegrove found sophomore Paul Ruppert just over a minute later that put the Bobcats back in the lead at 7-6.

UMW's Cole Hogan scored for the second time in the second half that tied the contest at seven with 5:48 to play.

Mary Washington was whistled for an interference penalty with less than two minutes left, but Frostburg was unable to capitalize on the extra-man opportunity. Bobcat sophomore keeper Jack Marks came up big with a save with six seconds left in regulation to help send the contest to OT.

Mary Washington won the ensuing faceoff in extra time and Owen Dingman scored the game winner just 42 seconds into play for the win.

Frostburg, which had four leads in the game, was outshot by UMW 33-22, but the Bobcats put 17 of their shots on net. FSU was also 18-of-22 (81.8%) on clear attempts, but won just 7-of-19 (36.8%) faceoffs.

Collins finished with one goal and one assist, while senior Adam Gross, junior Nick Mattis and Ruppert each finished with a goal. Mattis paced the Bobcats with four ground balls and Marks notched eight saves.

Mattis scored the game's first goal 39 seconds into play and Colegrove scored at 6:04 as the second quarter arrived with things knotted at 2-2.

Collins (7:21), Lucas (5:25) and Gross (1:11) each scored as Frostburg posted a 3-0 run in the second for a 5-2 lead at intermission.

Dingman paced the Eagles with two goals and two assists, while Hogan finished with two goals and one assist. Billy Senicola stopped 10 shots for the Eagles.

The Bobcats return home this Saturday when they host Marymount at 1:00 pm.
