FROSTBURG, Md. – Twelve different Frostburg players registered a point on Saturday afternoon as the Bobcats cruised to a dominating 16-3 win over Marymount at a sun drenched Bobcat Stadium.
Frostburg (5-6, 1-2) scored the game's first eight goals and the defense pitched a shutout through the first two quarters for an 8-0 cushion at halftime.
The Bobcats equaled that output in the second half with eight more goals, while allowing the visiting Saints (2-9, 0-2) to score three times.
Aside from 12 players registering at least one point, 10 different players scored for Frostburg, while sophomore Jordan Edwards and first-year Nick Gallagher found the net for the first time in their collegiate careers.
Senior Keegan Colegrove and sophomore Paul Ruppert each scored three times, while senior Adam Gross scored once and handed out three assists. Junior Michael Sipes finished with two goals and two assists.
As a team, Frostburg finished with 48 shots, including 26 in the second half. The Bobcats also won 15-of-23 faceoffs and were a perfect 12-for-12 on clears.
The connection of Gross to Colegrove resulted in the game's first two goals, while Gallagher (3:48), senior Nate Collins (2:24) and sophomore Jake Howarth (0:08) also tallied goals for a 5-0 lead after one.
Gross handed out his third assist of the game and it opened the second quarter when he found Sipes for a man-up goal just 2:02 into action. Sophomore Justin Carroll (9:02) and Ruppert (4:43) closed the first half with goals for the 8-0 lead.
Marymount scored twice in the third frame but it did little to slow Frostburg's momentum.
Sophomore Jimmy Lucas handed out two assists in the third, Sipes scored his second man-up goal of the afternoon and Ruppert closed the quarter with a goal with two seconds left for a 12-2 Bobcat advantage.
Ruppert opened the fourth with his third tally of the day before Gallagher (4:22), Edwards (3:14) and sophomore Dylan Scheeler (2:55) scored Frostburg's final three goals for a 16-3 final.
Defensively, sophomore keeper Jack Marks needed to make just three saves for his fifth win of the season. He played 38:23 before giving up the net to junior Adam Smith and first-year Corey McAndrew. Smith and McAndrew each made two saves in a little over 20 minutes of action.
Sean Friedman and Matthew Ebert each scored once with one assist to power the Saints.
Frostburg jumps out of CAC play when it hosts Elizabethtown this Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
