Frostburg Falls At No. 18 CNU, 13-7

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team suffered its third loss of the season to a ranked opponent as the Bobcats endured a 13-7 loss at No. 18 ranked Christopher Newport, Saturday afternoon.
 
The Bobcats fall to 4-5 with their first loss in three games, while the Captains push their record to 9-0 with their 16th-straight home win.
 
CNU used a 9-3 scoring advantage in the second half to pull away for the victory after Frostburg scored a pair of goals late in the second quarter to knot things at 4-4 at intermission.
 
Four different players scored for the Bobcats in the first half and sophomore Jimmy Lucas scored for the second time on the afternoon early in the third to tie the game at 5-5.
 
The Captains scored three-straight goals to close the third with an 8-5 advantage. The hosts continued that surge in the fourth as they outscored FSU 5-2.
 
Lucas scored his first of the game at 5:24 in the first quarter and senior Adam Gross connected on an unassisted goal with nine seconds left in the opening frame as Frostburg trailed just 3-2.
 
Dylan Rice opened the second quarter for Christopher Newport with a score at 13:05 for a 4-2 lead.
 
Frostburg rebounded when Gross found first-year Jason Clinton for a goal at 5:50 and senior Keegan Colegrove scored with 1:49 showing to even the count at four.
 
Rice and Lucas exchanged goals early in the third before the hosts closed with a three-goal run.
 
Clinton opened the fourth quarter with his second goal of the game and senior Nate Collins later pulled Frostburg to within 10-7 with an unassisted man-up tally with 7:30 left.
 
Christopher Newport led Frostburg in shots (30-18), faceoffs won (16-7) and ground balls (32-14) and Rice led the hosts with five goals.
 
Lucas and Clinton powered Frostburg with two goals each, while sophomore Jack Marks turned away eight shots in 60 minutes of work.
 
The Bobcats return to action on Thursday when they visit Mary Washington at 4:00 pm.
