FROSTBURG, Md. – The Cabrini Cavaliers used a quick four-goal outburst late in the third quarter to secure an 11-6 win over Frostburg State, Saturday at Bobcat Stadium.
The Bobcats (2-4) trailed by two at halftime and pulled to within one goal when sophomore Justin Carroll zipped a shot into the back of the net with 6:39 showing on the third quarter.
The goal pulled Frostburg to within 6-5 against a Cavalier team that entered the afternoon averaging over 11 goals per game.
However, Cabrini then rattled off four-straight goals over the final 2:29 of the third quarter for a 10-5 advantage. Four different players scored during the outburst for the visitors.
The Bobcats scored for the final time with 6:32 remaining in the fourth quarter when senior Adam Gross found sophomore Paul Ruppert for a man-up goal that made the score 10-6.
Timmy Brooks found the net for the third time on the afternoon to end the game's scoring when connected on a pass from Ty Kostack with 3:38 showing in the fourth.
The Bobcats had momentum early in the contest when they scored three-consecutive goals to close the first quarter with a 3-2 lead. Senior Keegan Colegrove (7:19), Lucas (6:22) and sophomore Michael Sipes (5:24) all scored for Frostburg.
Cabrini rebounded with back-to-back goals to open the second quarter for a 4-3 edge. Sophomore Paul Ruppert scored with 5:17 left in the opening half to even things at 4-4, but Cabrini went into the locker room up 6-4 with two goals after Ruppert's.
Sophomore keeper Jack Marks posted an impressive effort in net tying a career-best with 14 saves against the nationally-ranked and high-powered Cabrini attack.
Cabrini outshot Frostburg 38-29, but the Bobcats won 11-of-19 faceoffs as junior Drew Mash won 5-of-9. Ruppert led Frostburg with two goals.
Brooks paced the Cavaliers with three goals and two assists, while Jordan Krug scored three times.
Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday with a road trip to Messiah at 7:00 pm.
