Men’s Lacrosse Loses at No. 11 Franklin & Marshall

ASHLAND, Va. – A strong second quarter carried the 11th-ranked Franklin & Marshall men's lacrosse team to a 20-9 win over Frostburg, Saturday.
 
Senior Keegan Colegrove scored an unassisted goal at 10:01 in the opening quarter to tie things at 1-1 and sophomore Justin Carroll found classmate Paul Ruppert for the final goal of the first that evened things at 2-2.
 
Things quickly turned against the Bobcats (1-1) as the Diplomats (2-0) rattled off the game's next seven goals for a 9-2 advantage. George Briggs scored twice during the run for the hosts.
 
Sophomore Jimmy Lucas ended the run with a goal with 2:32 left in the opening half to narrow Frostburg's deficit to 9-3.
 
F&M closed out the first half with a goal with one second left on the clock for a 10-3 cushion at intermission.
 
Franklin & Marshall opened the third quarter with four of the frame's first five goals for a 14-4 lead. Senior Adam Gross scored at 9:09 for the Bobcats for a 12-4 score.
 
Gross later started a three-goal scoring run for Frostburg. He scored at 4:22, Colegrove found Ruppert at 4:02 and first-year Jason Clinton found the net for an unassisted goal with 3:07 left.
 
F&M closed out the third with the final two goals for a 16-7 edge.
 
Clinton scored to open the fourth for the Bobcats on an assist from Lucas, while Ruppert found the net with 5:31 remaining for Frostburg's final goal.
 
Sophomore starting keeper Jack Marks notched 11 saves, his fifth-consecutive game with 10 or more saves dating back to last season. Senior Bradley Jones, sophomore Dante York and junior Drew Mash each collected four ground balls.
 
On the offensive end, Ruppert paced the Bobcats with three goals, while Gross had two goals and one assist and Clinton scored twice. Mash and first-year Matt Pagliaro combined to win 14-of-30 faceoffs.
 
Franklin & Marshall attempted 50 shots in the contest and was led in scoring by Sean Rogers, who scored five goals with one assist.
 
Frostburg returns home on Wednesday when it hosts Lebanon Valley at 4:00 pm.
