FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Senior Evan Colon recorded two hits, a home run and drove in three runs but the Bobcats couldn't slow down the Mustangs offense as the Frostburg State baseball team fell to Stevenson, 21-8 Saturday afternoon in Fayetteville, N.C.
Frostburg (2-1) fell behind early and the offense attempted to rally the club on a couple of occasions.
Stevenson (2-0) opened the game with a four run bottom of the first inning and added eight more in the second.
The Bobcats scored eight runs on 12 hits and six errors, while the Mustangs plated 21 runs on 15 hits and four errors. Both teams scored in five of the nine innings with Stevenson scoring multiple runs in four frames.
In the top of the second inning Frostburg plated three runs and cut the lead to just one. Junior Nick Fuhrmann got the inning started with a double to the center field wall. Two batters later senior Greg Schneider lined a double to left field bringing home Fuhrmann. Following a walk and an error Colon knocked home a pair of runs on a single to left to make it 4-3.
After a big bottom of the second for the Mustangs, FSU knocked home two more runs in the top of the third on an RBI double from senior Matt Bougourd who then scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Fuhrmann, cutting it to 12-5.
Colon continued his hot start to the season in the top of the fourth with a lead off solo home run and this third RBI of the afternoon.
Frostburg scored one run in the seventh on a RBI fielder's choice by senior Patrick Bosley and another one on an RBI single by first-year Josh Clegg in the top of the ninth.
Fuhrmann and Colon each finished the day with two hits while eight other Bobcats registered one hit on the afternoon.
Frostburg will return to action tomorrow, February 17, for a rematch with Stevenson from J.P. Riddle Stadium. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
