Women’s Basketball Drops Road Contest to No. 24 Marymount (Va.)

ARLINGTON, Va. – The Frostburg State women's basketball team was defeated on the road in a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) matchup by No. 24 Marymount (Va.), 66-55, Saturday afternoon at Verizon Sports Arena.
 
With the loss, the Bobcats fall to 10-13 overall and 6-10 in conference play, while Marymount improves to 20-3 overall and 15-1 in the league.  
 
Frostburg State scored just 20 points in the paint, while Marymount poured in 40. Marymount also forced the Bobcats into 18 turnovers, while the Saints committed 12.
 
Frostburg was able to generate 11 points off turnovers, while Marymount generated just eight. The Bobcats also outrebounded the Saints 38-36, while FSU pulled down 21 first-half rebounds.
 
The Bobcats were led by senior guard Adjowa Pinkrah as she scored a team-high 10 points, marking the fifth time she has eclipsed the double-digit scoring mark. Pinkrah also grabbed five boards and added one steal in 20 minutes.
 
Sophomore forward Amanda Emory added eight points, grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds and had two assists and classmate Sydney Stotler scored eight points, pulled down seven rebounds and blocked four shots.
 
Frostburg State controlled most of the first quarter and had its largest lead at 4:46 as Pinkrah knocked down a three-pointer for a 12-6 cushion. Sophomore guard Victoria Diggs hit two free throws with eight seconds left in the quarter that gave the Bobcats a 20-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
In the second quarter, Marymount battled back to take the lead at 7:59 when Gabriella Haddad made a layup to hand the hosts a 24-22 lead. Senior guard Megan Kelly hit a three-pointer with 12 seconds left in the half to cut the Bobcat deficit to 31-28.
 
The Bobcats kept the game close in the third quarter but were unable to take the lead as sophomore Victoria Yoder knocked down a jumper at 8:43 to keep the game within two at 34-32. Yoder also knocked down a pair of free throws at 1:25 as the Saints clung to a 46-44 lead. Frostburg State trailed 49-44 at the end of the third.
 
In the final stanza, the Bobcats were unable to keep pace with the Saints as they opened their largest lead of the game at 62-50 behind a Tyffani McQueen foul shot with 1:42 remaining in the game. Pinkrah netted a free throw with four seconds remaining as the Bobcats dropped the contest 66-55.
 
Marymount had four players in double figures and was paced by Leah Hurst who scored a game-high 17 points, with eight assists and three steals.
 
The Bobcats return to action Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. as they travel to Southern Virginia in their final regular season CAC road matchup.
