ROANOKE, Va. – On Saturday afternoon, the Frostburg men's basketball team fell to the Roanoke College Maroons 90-68 in their first game of the Roanoke College Tournament. This loss moves the Bobcats to 4-5 on the season while the Maroons advance to 8-3.
Frostburg State's first half was led by junior guard Daniel Alexander, who had seven points and was 3-of-6 from the field. Junior guard Terry Kenner was right behind Alexander with six points. Frostburg shot 31.0% from the field in the first half, while Roanoke shot at 57.6% from the field. First-year Torrin Stephens led the Bobcats with seven rebounds in the first half.
Roanoke had three players who scored in double digits; C.J. Miles (12), Josh Freund (10), and Jordan Caleb (10).
The second half picked up for the Bobcats as junior Edwin Cole picked up 13 points, seven rebounds and was 2-of-3 from three-point range. Alexander was consistent throughout the game as he picked up another seven points for the second half to go along with three rebounds.
Frostburg was 35.8% from the field and 29.2% from three on the day. The Bobcats made 68.4% of their free throws as well. The Maroons were 57.9% from the field and 47.8% from three while only shooting 56.5% of their free throws.
Frostburg kept the game close in the first 10 minutes of action until the Maroons connected for over 20 points to give themselves a cushion in the first half. The second half was much better for the Bobcats as they outscored the Maroons 42-39.
The Bobcats are back in action Sunday December 30 at 12:00 pm against John Carroll.
