Frostburg Loses To John Carroll

SALEM, Va. – The Frostburg men's basketball team endured a 105-70 loss to John Carroll on the second day of the Cregger Invitational at Roanoke, Sunday afternoon.
 
Junior Daniel Alexander led the way for the Bobcats (4-6) with 18 points, his eighth-straight game in double figures. Senior Edwin Cole tossed in a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds and earned All-Classic Team honors. The Bobcats also received 27 points from their bench players, led by six points from junior Desmond Lighty.
 
Jimmy Berger scored the game's first points for the Blue Streaks (6-6) and they never trailed on the afternoon. Berger finished with a game-high 30 points to lead three John Carroll starters in double figures.
 
The Bobcats hung tough through the first 10 minutes of the game. Lighty hit a layup at 13:01 to pull FSU to 13-12 and moments later, Cole and junior Terry Kenner each hit jumpers to keep Frostburg within one point.
 
With 7:02 showing on the first half clock, Frostburg made one final push to tie the game as a free throw from first-year Torrin Stephens pulled FSU to 26-25.
 
JCU answered with an 11-0 run for a 37-25 advantage just three minutes later. Alexander connected on a three-pointer with 1:20 to go as Frostburg trailed 48-35 at intermission.
 
The Blue Streaks took control in the second half with a 10-0 run that started at 14:04 and gave them a 73-44 lead. JCU led by as many as 39 late in the second half with a three-pointer from Antonio Garofoli.
 
First-year Jamil Jones closed the game's scoring with a layup for the Bobcats with 1:21 to play.
 
FSU returns to action on Wednesday when they host Mary Washington at 8:00 pm.
