PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Frostburg senior Megan Kelly connected on a game-winning three-pointer with just two seconds left to lift the Bobcats to a 66-64 win over Chatham, Tuesday night.
The Bobcats improve to 4-0 on the season with their closest win of the year. FSU entered Tuesday with an average margin of victory of 23 points in its previous three games, but needed some late-game heroics against the Cougars.
Frostburg trailed Chatham (3-3) by four points, 64-60 with 32 seconds left after Ashley McClain hit a pair of free throws.
On the ensuing trip down the floor, Bobcat junior Victoria Diggs knocked down a three-pointer that pulled FSU to within one, 64-63 with 20 seconds left.
Following a 30 second timeout, Chatham turned the ball over with 11 seconds showing as junior Victoria Yoder was credited with the steal. She then found Kelly with two seconds on the clock and Kelly hit the game-winner for the 66-64 win.
The game featured nine lead changes and eight ties in 40 minutes of action.
Yoder hit a three-pointer just past the midway point of the first quarter as the Bobcats led by 10 and she later hit a jumper late in the second as Frostburg held on to a 31-23 cushion.
The hosts answered by opening the third quarter with an 8-0 run that evened the game at 33-33. The Cougars also led by four points twice in the fourth quarter before Kelly's game-winner.
Yoder finished the evening with a career-high 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting with eight rebounds and two steals. Junior Amanda Emory added 15 points and eight boards, while Diggs scored 12.
Megan Sieg led Chatham with 18 points followed by McClain with 15.
FSU returns to action on Saturday with a contest against Trine at the Marietta Tournament at 8:00 pm.
