Field Hockey Drops Regular Season Finale

FROSTBURG, Md. – On Thursday night the Bobcats fell to the York College Spartans 6-1, in the Capital Athletic Conference regular season finale.

Frostburg finishes the regular season with an overall record of 2-16 while the Spartans move to 10-7. The Bobcats move to 0-5 in conference while York moves to 4-1.

The first three goals came from the Spartans in the first half of play. The first goal found the back of the net only three minutes into the contest off a shot by Meghan Heary assisted by Lindsay Nye.  Several minutes later the Spartans found the back of the net again as Nye shot off an assist from Heary.  The final goal of the first half was from Heary at 15:43.

During the second half of play, the Spartans finished successfully on an attempt only forty seconds into the second half. Greta Plappert managed to find the back of the net unassisted.  Heary registered her second and third assist of the night as she dished the ball to Sam Collis and Dana Meehling for the final two York goals.

The lone Frostburg goal came from senior Ashleigh Myers, assisted by first-year Taylor Hackett off a penalty corner at 64:44.

The Bobcats posted six shots while York had 25. Junior goalkeeper Sierra Smizer posted 13 saves on the night.

Frostburg returns to action when the travel to Christopher Newport for the first round of the CAC tournament on Sunday, Oct. 28 at 2:00 pm.
