Men’s Soccer Drop Conference Home Opener

FROSTBURG, Md. – Senior Ernie Williams notched the only goal as the Frostburg State men's soccer team dropped the conference home opener 3-1 to Saint Mary's (Md.) Saturday night.

The Bobcats outshot the Seahawks nine to seven in the game, but Frostburg was only able to generate two shots in the second half.

Frostburg State's first opportunity for a goal came at the 1:51 mark as sophomore Josh McRobie's shot sailed just above the crossbar.

Off a corner kick at 17:10, junior Brett Basham had a header attempt that hit off the right post nearly going in. After some protests from Bobcat players, the call on the field stood as no goal. On the rebound attempt Senior Ernie Williams' shot was saved by St. Mary's keeper Zack Haussler.

St. Mary's Juwan Kearson found the back of the net three minutes later to take a 1-0 lead over the Bobcats.

In the 23rd minute a foul in the box by St. Mary's led to a penalty kick for the Bobcats. Williams stepped up and confidently put the ball in the upper left corner past Haussler to tie the game at one.

St. Mary's Emmanuel Oppong gave the Seahawks a 2-1 lead with a goal in the 26th minute.

Junior Haven Mackie had an opportunity for a goal but Haussler made a diving save to keep it out of the net at 34:25.

St. Mary's held a 2-1 lead over the Bobcats at half.

On a breakaway, St. Mary's had a two-on-one with freshman goalkeeper Juan Bofill and Khalid Balogun was able to put it past Bofill to take a 3-1 lead.

Bofill finished the game with two saves.

The only chance for a goal in the second half for the Bobcats came at 81:42 as Williams' header was denied by St. Mary's Haussler.

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, October 4th as they travel to Mary Washington. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
