FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Gary Foley scored the only goal of the game late in the second half that carried No. 25 Mary Washington to a narrow 1-0 victory over Frostburg, Wednesday.
Foley scored on a penalty kick with just under 10 minutes left in regulation to carry the national-ranked Eagles to their fourth-straight win.
Senior Jackson Bicknell notched five saves in defeat and the Frostburg (3-7-2, 1-2-0) defense limited UMW to just one goal. Mary Washington entered the matchup with FSU averaging 4.0 goals per game in its first two CAC contests.
All five of Bicknell's saves came in the second half and he notched back-to-back saves at 59:42 and again at 61:31.
Mary Washington (8-2-1, 3-0-0) outshot the Bobcats 13-8, but Frostburg wasn't without its chances.
Sophomore Josh McRobie had a shot in the 15
th minute turned away by Eagle goalie Matt Spencer and Bobcat senior Ernie Williams had a header sail wide of the net just 1:21 before the half.
In the second stanza, McRobie had another shot saved at 46:54 and senior Rodrigo Valenzuela attempted a shot at 83:08 that floated high of the cage.
McRobie finished the afternoon with a team-high three shots and the Bobcats held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks.
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Christopher Newport for another CAC matchup at 6:00 pm.
