Baseball Outlasted by Stevenson Tuesday

FROSTBUG, Md. – The Frostburg State baseball team came up on the short end of a 21-14 decision to Stevenson Tuesday afternoon at Bob Wells Field.

Frostburg (17-18) fell behind early and attempted to rally on multiple occasions.

Stevenson (18-22) took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, but did most of its damage offensively in the fourth and fifth innings.

The Bobcats scored 14 runs on 14 hits, while the Mustangs racked up 21 runs on 22 hits. The Mustangs scored at least one run in eight different innings and Frostburg had four multiple-run innings as part of a back-and-forth affair.

Offensively, junior Logan Corrigan led the way for the Bobcats with a 3-for-5 day at the plate. Three different Bobcats recorded multiple hits.

Junior Matt Bougourd broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the first when he scored on a passed ball to make the score 2-1 in favor of the Bobcats.

The Bobcats once again broke a tie in the bottom of the third when junior Matt Jeffery hit a sacrifice fly to right that scored junior Greg Schneider from second to give the Bobcats a 3-2 edge.

Stevenson responded with the next five runs of the game in the third and fourth innings for a 7-3 lead. The Bobcats struck for three in the home half of the fourth, cutting the Mustang lead to 7-6.

The Mustangs countered back with their biggest offensive outburst of the day, scoring seven runs in the top of the fifth. Frostburg would add six runs in the bottom of the sixth to make the score 14-12 Stevenson.

Stevenson went on to outscore the Bobcats 7-2 in the game's final three innings to secure the 21-14 victory.

Frostburg will return to action tomorrow, May 3, for a road matchup against Washington & Jefferson. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
