WASHINGTON, Pa. – The Frostburg State baseball team mounted a late rally to tie the game at three, but ultimately fell to Washington & Jefferson, 6-3, Wednesday afternoon at Ross Memorial Park.
Frostburg (17-19) clawed back from a 3-0 deficit with a three-run eighth inning. Washington & Jefferson (28-8) notched nine total hits and scored at least one run in four different innings.
Junior Logan Corrigan made the start on the mound, his first since April 13 against Shenandoah, and tossed a career-high 5.2 innings against the Presidents. The Bethel Park, Pa. native allowed two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts.
The Presidents pushed across a run in the bottom of the third to take a 1-0 lead. W&J added two more runs, one in the fifth and one in the sixth, for a 3-0 advantage.
Frostburg answered back in the top of the eighth. Junior Matt Bougourd drove home the Bobcats first run with a single to right center that scored senior JT Tipton. The next batter was senior Brad Garrant, who reached first on a throwing error and advanced to second on the play, which allowed junior Kyle Burger and Bougourd to score and tie the game at three.
The Presidents put the game away in the bottom of the eighth inning with three runs to take a 6-3 lead.
Junior Tyler Hoffman tossed 1.1 innings of relief, allowing two hits and one earned run.
Frostburg returns to action tomorrow afternoon for a road matchup against No. 17 La Roche. First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m.
