Cullison Completes Men’s Lacrosse Comeback Win At SVU

FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg senior Chase Cullison fired home the game-winning goal with just 14 seconds left on the clock as the Bobcats survived a tough road matchup at Southern Virginia, 11-10, Wednesday afternoon.

Cullison found the back of the net on four occasions, including twice in the fourth quarter to help Frostburg State (8-4, 4-1) overcome an 8-6 deficit heading into the final 15 minutes.

Sophomore Jake Howarth scored with 11:09 left in the fourth when he took a pass from junior Quinn Western and slotted it past SVU keeper Carson Franklin. Western then got a goal of his own five minutes later to knot the game up at eight. Casey Rich scored the next two Southern Virginia (4-7, 2-4) goals to up the hosts back up by two with just 3:15 left in regulation.

Cullison kick started the rally for the Bobcats with just 1:46 left when he netted his third of the game to bring the visitors within one. Freshman Jimmy Wagner tied the game with less than a minute on the clock when he rifled his second of the game past the keeper, setting the game-winning possession.

With just 59 seconds on the clock, senior Kyle Horak won his 11th faceoff of the game against Logan Lund and senior John Gamber picked up the ensuing ground ball. Wagner launched a shot with 44 seconds left that was saved by franklin followed by a shot from Cullison that he sent screaming wide of the goal with 25 seconds left. The Bobcats retained possession on the shot and with just 14 seconds on the fourth clock Cullison ripped a shot past the keeper Franklin, his fourth goal of the game, to finish off the comeback and give Frostburg the 11-10 victory.

FSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the game with Wagner, junior Keegan Colegrove, Cullison and Gamber all getting on the score sheet in the first quarter.

However, Southern Virginia had an answer as they tallied four goals of their own in the second quarter, sending the game to the midway break deadlocked a at goal apiece.

Cullison and Colegrove managed to put two more up on the board for the Bobcats in the third but FSU still found themselves down 8-6 after 45 minutes.

Cullison led the Bobcats with four points on the afternoon with Western close behind, racking up three on a goal and two assists. Howarth, Colegrove and Wagner all had two points apiece.

Freshman keeper Jack Marks made eight saves on 18 shots on goal.

The Bobcats return to action on Saturday, April 8 when they host in-state rival and No. 1 ranked Salisbury at Bobcat Stadium with the opening faceoff scheduled for 1:00 PM.
