FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State baseball team put up nine runs on 20 hits and secured a 9-5 victory over Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) opponent Southern Virginia Thursday afternoon at Bob Wells Field.

Frostburg improves to 12-10 overall this season behind a 4-5 record in CAC play. The Bobcats have won three-straight games after posting an 8-6 victory over Gallaudet on March 26 and a 17-8 victory over Penn State Harrisburg on March 25.
Southern Virginia falls to 8-20 overall and 2-8 in the CAC.
Senior Cody Harman (2-0) tossed six innings where he allowed just two earned runs with four strikeouts. He allowed eight hits on the afternoon, surrendering three of them in the first inning, but held the Knights scoreless in four of his six innings pitched.
Nine different Bobcats had a hit in the game and five recorded multiple hits on the afternoon. Juniors Kyle Burger and Matt Bougourd both went 4-for-5 at the plate, while junior Colton Sivic and senior JT Tipton had three hits each.
Tipton took over the team lead for multi-hit games with his 10
th of the season this afternoon.
The Knights struck first in the opening frame after a Zach McNally single to right scored Cole Critchfield for a 1-0 lead.
Frostburg answered back with a run in the bottom half to tie the game at one. Junior Matt Jeffery smoked a single to left field to score Burger.
After each team went scoreless in their next turn at the plate, both plated a run in the third inning to tie the game at two.
Frostburg began to pull away in the bottom of the fourth, when Tipton cracked a single through the left side to score Sivic and give the Bobcats a 3-2 lead.
Senior Brad Garrant led off the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo shot to right center, his second of the season, which put the Bobcats up 4-2. Junior Logan Corrigan hit a double to right and scored on a single from freshman Brady Ward that gave the hosts a 5-2 edge.
Garrant helped extend the Bobcats lead again in the bottom of the sixth when he hit a single to left center to plate Tipton for a 6-2 lead. After a single from Bougourd and a walk to Corrigan, Sivic brought home Garrant with a single to make the score 7-2.
Southern Virginia attempted to claw back into the game, with three runs in the seventh inning, but the Bobcats responded with runs in the seventh and eighth innings to make the score 9-5.
Junior Tyler Hoffman earned his second save of the season with two innings of relief work where he allowed just two hits.
The Bobcats will be back in action on Saturday, April 1 at Bob Wells Field against Salisbury. First pitch for the CAC contest is set for noon.
