ARLINGTON, Va. – Junior Keegan Colegrove scored three goals, senior Kyle Horak won 15 faceoffs and freshman Jack Marks notched 10 saves to help the Frostburg men's lacrosse team edge Marymount 11-9, Saturday.
The Bobcats improve to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in the CAC behind a strong second quarter.
Junior Adam Gross found junior Nick Pontorno for Frostburg's first goal at 5:01 after Marymount opened the game with two goals.
Marymount pushed its lead to 3-1 with another goal with just under four minutes to play in the first quarter.
Colegrove answered at 2:44 with his first goal and senior Chase Cullison followed with his only goal of the afternoon with 28 seconds left as the bobcats tied things at 3-3.
MU's Nick Hohman handed the Saints (2-9, 0-4 CAC) a 4-3 lead after the first with a goal with 20 seconds left.
Frostburg took control with a methodical second quarter as it scored all three of the frame's goals and carried a 6-4 lead into the locker room. Colegrove opened the second with his second goal off a pass from Cullison at 5:13. Freshman Jimmy Lucas scored the second goal of the quarter at 1:28 and freshman Jimmy Wagner closed the opening half with a goal with just 44 seconds left.
Frostburg continued the surge in the second half as Lucas found junior Quinn Western for a 7-4 lead and Wagner found freshman Justin Carroll at 11:34 as the Bobcats pushed their advantage to 8-4.
Marymount scored three-straight goals over a three-minute stretch late in the third to pull to within 8-7.
Pontorno found Wagner for the final goal of the third quarter with 37 seconds left for a 9-7 lead and Colegrove scored his third of the afternoon to open the fourth (14:09) for a 10-7 lead.
From there, the teams traded goals until the final horn. Gross scored the Bobcats' final goal with 4:48 to play.
Colegrove has scored three goals in three games this season and he did so against Marymount on eight shots. Wagner finished with two goals and one assist, while Lucas had one goal and two assists.
Horak finished the afternoon with a team-high 10 ground balls and was 15-of-24 on faceoffs. Marks finished with double-digit saves for the fourth time, including six in the second quarter when Frostburg outscored the Saints 3-0.
Frostburg was also nearly perfect after finishing 15-of-16 on clear attempts.
Brent Sulhoff powered the Saints with three goals and one assist, while Matthew Ebert scored twice.
Frostburg returns to action on Wednesday when it faces Ohio Wesleyan at Wheeling Jesuit University at 5:00 pm.
