Men’s Lacrosse Nets 8-3 Victory Over Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior midfielder Adam Gross scored three goals on nine shots and helped the Frostburg State men's lacrosse team to an 8-3 victory over Lebanon Valley Wednesday afternoon at Arnold Field.
 
Frostburg (2-1) scored at least one goal in all four quarters and tallied the first five goals of the game. Lebanon Valley (1-1) scored goals in the second, third and fourth quarters.
 
The Bobcats limited Lebanon Valley to just three goals on the day; it was the lowest number of goals allowed since March 14, 2016, where they gave up three goals to Sewanee in an 11-3 victory.
 
Frostburg held a decisive edge in face offs, winning 12 compared to the Dutchmen's three. The Bobcats also held the edge in shots, 40-25, and shots on goal, 28-14.
 
Frostburg finished a perfect 14-of-14 in clears and scooped up 33 groundballs on the afternoon.
 
Gross led the way with three points (all goals), while junior Keegan Colegrove added two points with a goal and assist. Junior Nick Pontorno, junior Ryan Baukhages, junior Quinn Western and freshman Jimmy Lucas all scored one goal. Six different Bobcat players registered a goal in the victory.
 
The Bobcats jumped out to an early lead on a goal from Baukhages with 7:40 left in the first quarter.
 
Colegrove notched the Bobcats' second goal with 1:32 left in the first quarter and Pontorno put FSU up 3-0 41 second later. Senior John Gamber had the assist on the Colegrove goal.
 
Gross scored goals at the 6:39 and 4:37 mark of the second quarter before Lebanon Valley responded with its first goal of the contest.
 
Gross completed the hat trick with 3:59 remaining in the third quarter to give the Bobcats a 6-2 lead.
 
Lucas and Western scored in the fourth quarter and put the Bobcats up 8-2 before Lebanon Valley cashed in with a man-up for the 8-3 final.
 
The Bobcats will return to the field for their first home game of the season this Saturday, March 4 against Washington (Md.) at 1:00 p.m.
