FROSTBURG, Md. – In a battle between two teams sitting just outside the USILA Top 20, Washington emerged with a narrow 7-4 victory over Frostburg, Saturday.

The contest was Frostburg's home opener as it started the spring with three-straight road games. The loss drops the Bobcats to 2-2 overall.
Freshman Paul Ruppert scored back-to-back goals as part of a 3-0 FSU run that put the hosts up 4-2. Junior Adam Gross scored an unassisted goal with 12:08 on the clock in the second quarter to even the contest at 2-2.
Just over a minute later, Ruppert handed the Bobcats a 3-2 advantage with an unassisted goal at 10:57 and he scored again at 8:12 for a 4-2 cushion. Gross was credited with an assist on the second goal.
From that point on, the scoreboard favored the Shoremen (4-0) as they scored the contest's next five goals. Cooper Sloan scored the final goal of the first half at 5:31 and he opened the second half scoring with a tally at 11:42 that evened the score at four goals apiece.
Tyler Powers scored the game's final three goals, including two in the fourth for the 7-4 win.
Ruppert led the Bobcats with two goals, while Gross had one goal and one assist. Frostburg also outshot the visitors 35-29.
Senior Kyle Horak won 6-of-12 faceoffs and freshman Jack Marks notched seven saves.
Powers led the Shoremen with four goals and two assists, while keeper Ben Flood made 11 saves.
Frostburg returns to action this Wednesday when it hosts McDaniel at 7:00 pm.
