FROSTBURG, Md. – Sophomore guard Victoria Diggs scored a team-high 14 points, but the Frostburg State women's basketball team dropped a Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) matchup, 63-52, to the eighth-ranked Mary Washington Eagles Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Arena.
Frostburg (9-12, 7-7) finished the day 20-of-59 (33.9%) from the floor, 7-of-21 (33.3%) from three-point range and 5-of-9 (55.6%) from the foul line.
Mary Washington (20-1, 13-1) finished the afternoon 23-of-58 (39.7%) from the field and 12-of-29 (41.4%) from three-point range.
Diggs dished out five assists, grabbed four rebounds and notched four steals in addition to her 14 points. Junior forward Adjowa Pinkrah was the other Bobcat in double figures, with 10 points. Pinkrah added six rebounds, three blocks, one steal and one assist.
Senior guard Kache Fields had nine points and freshman Sydney Stotler finished with eight. Freshman Amanda Emory had five points and five rebounds, while sophomore Megan Kelly and freshman Victoria Yoder finished with three points each.
Frostburg jumped out to a quick 2-0 edge with a jumper from Stotler, but Mary Washington countered with 11 straight points.
Diggs began the second quarter with a three-pointer to make the score 14-7 UMW. Pinkrah made a three-pointer with 6:52 left in the half and added a layup with 4:40 left. Frostburg ended the second quarter with four three-point field goals. Freshman Victoria Yoder converted a three-point play with 18 seconds remaining in the first half to pull the Bobcats to within two, 31-29.
Pinkrah tied the game at 31 with a layup in the third quarter, but the Eagles would close the quarter on a 17-4 run.
The Bobcats notched back-to-back layups from Fields and Stotler in the early portions of the fourth quarter. Diggs hit two three-pointers in the final two minutes and Fields converted a layup with 28 seconds remaining, but the Bobcats were unable to close the gap.
Kendall Parker paced Mary Washington with a game-high 27 points, all coming from three-point range. Brianne Comden finished with nine points.
Frostburg will return to action inside Bobcat Arena on Wednesday, February 8 against Southern Virginia at 6:00 p.m.
