FROSTBURG, (Md.) – Freshman forward Mackenzie Harwood found the back of the net in the 84
th minute to give Frostburg State a 1-0 victory over the Mary Washington Eagles Wednesday night.
The Bobcats (3-6-2, 2-0-1) tallied thirteen shots on the night with ten coming in the first half.
Frostburg State's first scoring opportunity came from junior Danielle Ferris at 2:45 when her shot was saved by Mary Washington's keeper Haley Randall. Ferris also had another opportunity in the first half as a header at 38:40 hit off the cross bar.
At 23:29, Mary Washington's Brooke Bauman hit a shot towards the goal but senior Lia Kelly kicked the ball away from the goal line and junior goalkeeper Emily Faust scooped it up.
Faust finished the game with eight saves.
Senior Melanie Bell had an opportunity to score at 27:17 as her header hit off the cross bar.
The game was knotted 0-0 at the half.
Twenty-three seconds into the second half the Bobcats were awarded a penalty kick. Sophomore Brooke Shehade stepped-up to take the shot, but it sailed wide left.
In the 84
th minute, off a corner kick from Shehade, Harwood placed her header in the upper right corner to take a 1-0 lead. It is Harwood's first goal in a Bobcat uniform.
Frostburg State attempted eight corner shots for the game.
The Bobcats are back in action Saturday as they travel to Christopher Newport. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
