NEWPORT NEWS, (Va.) – The Frostburg State women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to Capital Athletic Conference opponent Christopher Newport on a wet Saturday afternoon.
The Captains (11-0-1, 4-0) handed the Bobcats their first CAC loss of the season moving them to 3-7-2 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.
Frostburg State struggled offensively as they were only able to generate one shot while CNU had a flurry of 29 shots.
At 8:47, Christopher Newport's Riley Cook found the back of the net with a header from a cross by Gabby Gillis.
Just before the half at 43:28, junior goalkeeper Emily Faust denied CNU's Emily Schoka's shot to keep the game in reach.
Faust finished the game with 11 saves.
The Bobcats trailed the Captains 1-0 at the half.
Frostburg's only opportunity to score came at 48:32 by freshman midfielder Helen Francis, but her shot was saved by the Captain's keeper Carly Maglio.
CNU found themselves up 2-0 at 56:58 when Gillis had a one-on-one with Faust and found a way to put the ball past her. Gillis scored again at 77:38 when her header found the back of the net.
At 89:54 the Captains were awarded a penalty kick and Alexis Haycraft put the ball past Faust to take a 4-0 lead.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday as the host CAC opponent York (Pa.) at 6:00 p.m. at Bobcat Stadium.
