FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team defeated Capital Athletic Conference foe Penn State Harrisburg, 2-0 Wednesday night.
The Bobcats have won two in a row moving to 5-9-2 overall and 3-4 in league play, while Penn State Harrisburg drops to 10-7 overall and 3-4 in CAC play.
Frostburg State generated 14 shots on the night outshooting the Lions who were only able to muster four.
The first scoring opportunity for the Bobcats came at 28:24 as first-year Andrew Lakanu ripped a shot outside of the 18-yard box that took a diving stop from the Lions keeper Hunter Cooper. Off the rebound sophomore Mitchell Love hit a shot on goal but was blocked by a Penn State Harrisburg defender.
Heading into the half the game was knotted at zero.
Junior Brett Basham scored the game's first goal off a header at 51:15 as senior Rodrigo Valenzuela connected with Basham off a free-kick.
Penn State Harrisburg's best scoring opportunity came at the 85:23 mark as Victor Weaver took a free-kick just outside the 18-yard box that sailed high.
The Bobcats' second and final goal came from sophomore K.J. Davis at 86:47. Sophomore Josh McRobie had a breakaway and found Davis on the run with a through ball as Davis found the back of the net putting Frostburg up 2-0.
The game marked first-year goalkeeper Juan Bofill's second straight shutout and fourth win of the year.
The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday as they host Salisbury for senior day at 7:00 p.m.
