Bobcats Suffer Loss to Salisbury in OT

FROSTBURG, Md. – Nick Carrington scored a goal on a penalty kick in overtime that gave Salisbury a 1-0 victory over Frostburg State, Saturday night.

The Bobcats slip to 5-10 overall and 3-5 in the Capital Athletic Conference, while Salisbury improved to 7-8-2 overall and 3-3-2 in CAC play.

Frostburg outshot Salisbury 13-8 on the night, with five shots on goal. There were a total of 39 fouls accumulated in the game; Salisbury had 24 fouls to Frostburg's 15.

Senior Rodrigo Valenzuela and junior Haven Mackie both led the Bobcats with three shots each.

The first scoring opportunity for Frostburg came at 10:08, as Valenzuela ripped a left-footed shot at the goal and forced Salisbury's goalkeeper Trevor Brookhart off the line.

At 25:42 Valenzuela hit a free kick from 45 yards out and connected with senior Elliot Quinteros, but his header sailed just high.

First-year keeper Juan Bofill had a tremendous save in the 30th minute as Salisbury's Dolph Hegewisch's header was knocked away by a leaping Bofill.

Bofill finished the game with two saves.

Heading into intermission the scored was knotted at zero.

Late in the second half at 79:52, Mackie beamed a shot just outside the 18 yard box that took a diving Brookhart to knock it away.

Two minutes and fourteen seconds into overtime Frostburg State was called for a foul inside the 18 yard box giving Salisbury a penalty kick. Carrington put it in the lower left corner past Bofill to give Salisbury the 1-0 lead and win.

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday as they host CAC opponent Southern Virginia, kick-off at 6:00 p.m.
