YORK, Pa. – York (Pa.) scored a late goal with just over 30 seconds left in regulation to earn a narrow 2-1 victory over Frostburg, Wednesday evening.
The Spartans' Chris Hobbs ran onto a bouncing ball in the seven-yard box and poked it into the back of the net for the last-minute win.
York (5-7-1, 3-2 CAC) outshot the Bobcats, 21-10, but Frostburg attempted eight second-half shots as it rallied from an early hole.
The hosts scored just 6:21 into action for a 1-0 advantage. Danny Morgan was credited with the goal off a pass from Keith Witherell.
Behind a 9-2 advantage in shots over the remainder of the first half, the Spartans carried that 1-0 edge into the half and over the first 16 minutes of the second stanza.
Sophomore Josh McRobie scored for the fifth time this fall as he evened things at one goal apiece. Freshman Punya Saleekul handed out his team-leading fourth assist as FSU (3-9-2, 1-4 CAC) scored in the 62
nd minute.
York applied pressure following the game-tying goal and Bobcat freshman keeper Juan Bofill collected a handful of shots to keep things tied. He stopped a shot from Hobbs at 70:40 and made a diving save on a header from Hobbs with just under 15 minutes to play.
Bofill finished the night with five saves in the loss, while senior Ernie Williams and McRobie led FSU with two shots each.
Frostburg is back in action this Saturday at Marymount at 7:30 pm.
