#16 Bobcats Win Fifth Straight

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The 16th-ranked Frostburg baseball team collected its fifth-consecutive win on Tuesday afternoon with a 7-2 victory over Catholic.

Sophomore Greg Schneider drove in four of the Bobcats' seven runs and junior Ryan Callahan posted his second win on the mound.

A three-run ninth inning helped break open a 4-1 Frostburg lead and would eventually result in its eighth non-conference win of the season.

Callahan held the Cardinals (10-13) hitless over the first two innings and finished the game with seven strikeouts in 7.0 innings of work. He allowed just one unearned run and walked just one. Junior Jake Stephens tossed the final 2.0 innings with one strikeout while posting his first save of the season.

Senior KJ Hockaday drove home classmate Jamaal Windom for the game's first run in the top of the first inning. Catholic answered in the third with a single run, but Frostburg recaptured the lead in the fourth when Hockaday scored a ground out from Schneider.

The Bobcats (16-7) opened up a 3-1 cushion in the sixth when Hockaday scored again, this time on an error by the Catholic infield. Frostburg added another run in the seventh when Windom led off the frame with a double to left field. He stole third and eventually scored on a wild pitch.

Frostburg sealed its victory behind its three-run ninth. Schneider drove in both Hockaday and Tipton for the first two runs and senior Jeremy Remalia doubled home Schneider for a 7-1 lead.

The Cardinals scored their final run in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI single.

Schneider finished with four RBI and a runs scored, while Hockaday was 1-for-3 with three runs scored, an RBI and two walks.

Frostburg returns to action tomorrow afternoon for a CAC matchup at York (Pa.) at 3:30 pm.
