YORK, Pa. – The 16
th-ranked Frostburg baseball team rallied past York (Pa.) for a 6-5, 10-inning victory on Wednesday despite trailing late in the game.
The Bobcats (17-7, 9-4) trailed 4-1 following seven innings of play, but a three-run eighth and two more in the 10
th lifted them to the win.
The victory moves Frostburg into a three-win tie for first place in the CAC standings and is the sixth-straight win.
Frostburg plated all three runs in the eighth with two outs and junior JT Tipton kick started the rally with an infield single for the first hit of the frame. Senior KJ Hockaday then drew a walk before junior Brad Garrant singled to center scoring Tipton. Hockaday crossed the plate right behind Tipton on an error by the York outfield as FSU trailed just 4-3.
The Bobcats evened the game at 4-4 when senior Connor Cooper singled to left and scored Garrant.
In the 10
th, Hockaday reached base after being hit by a pitch and he scored from first when Garrant roped a double to left center. Senior Zach Keeler plated Garrant for the second run with a single up the middle.
In the home half of the 10
th, sophomore Greg Schneider came on in relief of senior Nick Huff and earned his first career save. However, York challenged with a single run and two hits before Schneider struckout the final three batters to seal the win.
Huff earned the victory after tossing the eighth and ninth innings and surrendering just one hit. It's his third win this year.
York opened the scoring with two runs in the first before both teams plated runs in the sixth. Hockaday scored senior Jamaal Windom on a fielder's choice for the Bobcats' only run prior to the eighth.
The Spartans (7-20, 5-8) increased their lead to 4-1 with an RBI single in the seventh that set up Frostburg's rally.
Garrant finished 2-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored, while Hockaday was 1-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
The Bobcats host Mary Washington this Saturday in twinbill starting at 1:00 pm.
