FROSTBURG, Md. – The No. 20 Frostburg State men's lacrosse team rallied back from an early 4-0 deficit, but ultimately fell to No. 4 York (Pa.), 8-4, Saturday evening at a windy Bobcat Stadium.
York (11-1, 4-0 Capital Athletic Conference) had four-straight goals to open the game, including three unanswered tallies in the first quarter, but the Bobcats (11-2, 2-2 CAC) answered back as senior Tate Rolland had a hand in FSU's first two goals to cut the deficit to 4-2 halfway through the second quarter.
Rolland found senior Blake Grudzien on a beautiful pass at the top of the crease for FSU's first goal. Twenty seconds later, Rolland hit sophomore Adam Gross to bring the Bobcats within two.
The Spartans had the final two goals of the half to take a 6-2 lead heading into the locker room.
The Bobcats bounced back, as senior Nick Stailey buried a helper from senior Spenser Love just 29 seconds into the third. However, Cameron Leech added a tally halfway through the quarter to keep York ahead, 7-3.
With time winding down, Gross found Love for a last-second goal to preserve FSU's hope for another 15 minutes.
Despite FSU winning both fourth-quarter face offs, York's Dillon Hannah added the final goal with 5:33 to play.
The Bobcats finished 10-of-16 at the face off X as senior Erik Geiser was 9-of-12 with five ground balls.
Senior goalkeeper Tom Kraemer finished with nine saves in the crease and added three ground balls.
Nick Magnusson and Hunter Davis both tallied two goals for the Spartans, while Caleb Abney (5 saves) and James Anderson (1 save) split time in the crease.
The Bobcats return to action Tuesday, April 5 when they play host to Southern Virginia at 4:00 pm.
