FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg softball rebounded for a split with York (Pa.) in CAC action, Saturday on senior day. The Bobcats dropped game one 3-1 and picked up the game-two victory 4-1.
The Bobcats (24-10, 9-3 CAC) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first before the Spartans (24-14, 7-7) answered with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings for the win.
Senior Renay Aubel led off the fourth for Frostburg with a double down the right field line. Freshman Olivia Ford came in to pinch run and promptly scored when senior Taylor Blevins singled up the middle.
York (Pa.) plated its first run in the fifth when Melissa Jurkiewicz scored on a single. Haley Hirn scored the go-ahead run in the sixth a sacrifice fly, while in the seventh, the visitors added an insurance run when Jurkiewicz scored on an error.
Jurkiewicz earned the win in the circle as well, while Bobcat sophomore Allison Short struckout eight hitters and allowed just one earned run.
In the second game, a three-run fifth inning was more than enough offense for the Bobcats.
York scored first when Hirn homered to left field in the fourth. The Bobcats took the lead with three runs in the fifth, starting when senior Lauren Capece doubled home junior Megan Tracey.
Blevins later singled home Capece and junior Hannah Tavik drove home freshman Cat Kim with a single up the middle.
Sophomore Sam Gatton reached on a fielding error in the sixth before scoring on a Capece double to center.
Freshman Ali Caulkins earned the win for FSU after striking out three batters in 7.0 innings. She allowed just five hits and one earned run.
Capece led the way in the nightcap with a 2-for-3 effort with two RBI and a run scored.
Frostburg hosts No. 1 ranked Salisbury tomorrow in a key CAC doubleheader at 1:00 pm.
