Bobcats Collect Win Over Southern Virginia

BUENA VISTA, Va. – The Frostburg State women's lacrosse team won for the second-straight game with a commanding 21-14 win over Southern Virginia, Wednesday.
 
Junior Taylor Mone scored a career-best five goals and the Bobcats (6-7, 2-5) used a 12-goal scoring jolt in the second half for the win.
 
The victory also marks the second-straight CAC win for Frostburg as it has averaged over 18 goals per contest during the pair of wins.
 
Mone might have found the net five times, but junior Megan Hart scored four goals and handed out one assist and junior Emani Byrd finished with two goals and three assists. Freshman Morgan Cavey contributed three goals and one assist.
 
Frostburg dominated all over the field as it posted season-highs in shots (42), ground balls (33), draw controls (25) and goals (21).
 
Byrd scored the game's first goal just 25 seconds into, but trailed the Knights (7-9, 0-7) 4-2 almost midway through the first.
 
Frostburg answered with a 5-0 run that grabbed the lead for good. Byrd found Mone for the first goal of the outburst at 14:38 and junior Megan Hart scored an unassisted tally with 3:51 left in the first half to cap the run.
 
Cavey and Megan Hart each scored inside the final minute of the half to secure a 9-6 lead at the break.
 
Byrd again opened action with a goal, this time 1:02 into the second half for a 10-6 cushion.
 
SVU tried to hang tough and narrowed the deficit to 12-10 just over nine minutes into the second, but the Bobcats used another run to seal the win.
 
Freshman Jessica Hartley scored at 20:07 that started a 4-0 scoring run for Frostburg as it pushed its lead to 16-10. Cavey connected with Mone for the fourth goal at 15:07.
 
Mone scored two more goals on the afternoon, the first at 11:44 and the second at 11:21 as part of another 4-0 Frostburg run. Cavey scored the final goal for Frostburg with 6:40 showing.
 
Junior Dylan Teitelbaum made five saves for the win, while Byrd posted nine draw controls. Molly Hart led with seven ground balls.
 
Frostburg hosts St. Mary's this Saturday for Senior Day at 3:00 pm.
