Women’s Lax Slips To No. 13 St. Mary’s

FROSTBURG, Md. – Despite picking up three more ground balls, the Frostburg State women's lacrosse team fell to No. 13 St. Mary's (Md.), 19-9, Saturday afternoon at a sunny Bobcat Stadium.
 
Junior Megan Hart (3 goals, 1 assist) led the Bobcats (6-8, 2-6 Capital Athletic Conference) while classmates Molly Hart and Emani Byrd both added two goals.
 
St. Mary's (15-2, 6-2 CAC) jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, but Megan Hart had a hand in the next two goals, scoring the first and dishing a pass to Byrd for the second, as FSU trailed by one, 3-2. The Seahawks added six more goals before halftime to lead 9-2.
 
Next it was sophomore Courtney Ridenour's turn as she opened the second half with a free-position goal and added an assist 3:16 later when she found classmate Samantha Cataldo for FSU's fourth goal of the game.
 
St. Mary's then used a 5-0 run to put the game out of reach, 14-4. Molly Hart added goals barely a minute apart before Megan Cannon notched St. Mary's 15th goal with 11:08 remaining.
 
Byrd and junior Taylor Mone added two more goals for FSU to bring the game within six, 15-8, but the Seahawks had four of the final five goals to take home the 19-9 victory.
 
Junior goalkeeper Dylan Teitelbaum finished with nine saves in the crease and shared time with freshman Abigail McClure, who had one save in the loss.
 
Kayla Dunn and Emma Brown split time between the pipes for the Seahawks, combining for eight saves. Meg Gesner led the visitors with four points behind three goals and one assist.
 
Frostburg State finished the 2016 season with a 6-8 overall record.
