WESTMINSTER, Md. – With his 115
th goal, senior Spenser Love became the program's all-time leading scorer as the No. 15 Frostburg State men's lacrosse team defeated McDaniel, 10-6, Wednesday evening.
Senior Nick Stailey found Love with 4:32 to go before halftime for his 115
th career goal to slide past Ryan Serio as the Bobcats' all-time leading goal scorer. Love also sits at fourth on FSU's all-time list with 164 points, just two shy of third place.
"I'm proud that Spenser is Frostburg's all-time leading goal scorer because of how hard he works to reach his goals and help the team reach its goals. I can't think of a better example of what we want our lacrosse players to be in the classroom and on the field. He's a great young man with a tremendous future ahead of him," stated head coach Tommy Pearce.
Love finished with two goals and one assist, while Stailey and sophomore Adam Gross both tallied three goals and an assist to lead the Bobcats.
Senior Tate Rolland opened up scoring just 2:29 into the game on a feed from Love, and Stailey finished the quarter with a hat trick to give the Bobcats a 4-1 lead heading into the second quarter.
Gross and McDaniel's Troy Becker traded goals, but it was the next Frostburg goal in the second quarter that made history. Stailey then found Love for his record-breaking goal as the Bobcats took a 6-2 lead at halftime.
McDaniel (2-5) added two more goals in the third as Zach Monzo and Timothy McNichol sandwiched Love's second tally.
McNichol added the opening goal in the fourth, but Gross had a hand in Frostburg's next three goals, scoring twice and assisting on a mark from sophomore Nick Pontorno to give the Bobcats a 10-5 advantage.
With time winding down, McNichol snuck one past FSU's defense, but the damage was done as the Bobcats took the win and remain unblemished at 11-0.
