DOVER, Del. – Fourteen Bobcats found themselves on the stat sheet as the No. 16 Frostburg State men's lacrosse team took down Wesley, 18-5, in Capital Athletic Conference action Thursday evening.
Sophomore Adam Gross led the Bobcats with a career-high six points behind two goals and four assists. Senior Spenser Love found the back of the net four times, while junior Chase Cullison (3 goals, 1 assist) and senior Blake Grudzien (3g) had a hat trick apiece. Defensively, junior John Gamber picked up three ground balls and caused four of Wesley's 21 turnovers.
FSU improves to 9-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while the Wolverines fall to 3-6 and 0-2 in the CAC.
Frostburg outshot Wesley 43-22 and was perfect on clear attempts (11-for-11) and extra-man opportunities (2-for-2).
Wesley's Sam Seibert got on the board just 1:06 into the contest, but FSU answered back with a nine-goal run that lasted into the second quarter.
Cullison, Grudzien, and Love had two goals each during the rally, while a trio of sophomores in Nate Collins, Adam Gross, and Keegan Colegrove each found the back of the net once as FSU led 9-1 with 13:19 remaining before halftime.
Seibert had a hand in Wesley's next two goals, assisting on a Nate Gemmato tally and slipping past the Bobcat defense himself just 45 seconds later to try and slow FSU's momentum.
The Bobcats, however, couldn't be stopped and used goals from Grudzien, Cullison, sophomore Ryan Baukhages, and Gross to lead by 10, 13-3, at halftime.
Love added back-to-back goals to open the second half, and Gross found senior Nick Stailey with 4:10 to go in the third to push FSU's lead to 16-3.
Seibert then had his own back-to-back goals, closing out the third quarter and opening the fourth with unassisted tallies, however, FSU made its point with goals from Collins (9:28) and freshman Kyle Kinney (4:11) to close out the game and cruise past Wesley with an 18-5 victory.
Senior Erik Geiser was nearly perfect on face-offs, winning 12-of-14 and scooping up nine ground balls. Both Geiser and Pontorno had two assists, while freshman Greg Giles, sophomore Ethan Aikin, and senior Michael Kibler each added a helper.
Senior keeper Tom Kraemer finished with four saves, while classmate Taylor Schmitz added a save as well. Freshman Tommy Rolando also saw time in the cage for the Bobcats.
Seibert had a hand in all five of the Wolverines' goals, scoring four and adding an assist. Goalkeeper Cody Ireland finished with 13 saves in the loss.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, March 19 when they travel to Washington College for a 1:00 pm face-off.
