FROSTBURG, Md. – Despite a slow first quarter, the Frostburg State men's lacrosse team used big second and third quarters to take down Lebanon Valley, 11-2, Saturday afternoon at Bobcat Stadium.
Senior attack Spenser Love led the Bobcats (2-0) with a four-point effort on two goals and two assists, while senior midfielder Michael Kibler chipped in a goal and two assists.
The Dutchmen (0-1) got things rolling with 5:45 left in the opening quarter after Brett Kudlak found the back of the net for the visitors. Ten seconds later, however, senior midfielder Erik Geiser took things into his own hands and, after winning the face-off, buried a shot past the Dutchmen's keeper to even things up.
With time winding down, junior midfielder John Gamber got his first of the game to lift the Bobcats, 2-1, after the first.
FSU expanded its lead to 5-1 with goals from junior midfielder Chase Cullison, senior midfielder Tate Rolland, and senior attack Nick Stailey before Lebanon Valley's Kudlak answered back with the Dutchmen's final goal of the game with 2:19 showing on the clock before halftime.
Frostburg kept its momentum and stormed out of the half to score five goals in the third quarter, including an extra-man tally following an LVC penalty. Kibler notched two assists and a goal during the run, while both Love and senior attack Blake Grudzien added a goal and an assist each.
A Dutchmen penalty in the fourth allowed the Bobcats to capitalize on an extra-man opportunity after sophomore attack Nick Pontorno found Love to hand the Bobcats the final 11-2 victory.
FSU outshot Lebanon Valley 49-20 and picked up 14 more ground balls than the visitors (37-23).
Geiser finished 10-for-11 at the X and picked up seven ground balls, while sophomore midfielder Kyle Horak finished 4-for-5 with three ground balls to help seal the win.
Alex Bushong grabbed five ground balls for Lebanon Valley, and keeper Cameron Epple had 10 saves in the loss.
Senior goalkeeper Tom Kraemer shared time between the pipes with senior keeper Taylor Schmitz and had 10 saves in the win. Schmitz finished with one save.
The Bobcats return to Bobcat Stadium tomorrow, Sunday, February 28, when the square off with Mount Union. Face-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
