FROSTBURG, Md. – The lead changed hands several times in the closing minute of Wednesday night's game between Frostburg and York and it was four late free throws that sealed the win for FSU.
Sophomore Tyler Michael calmly knocked down two foul shots with 23 seconds left and senior Shawn Henson hit two more with nine seconds showing to hand the host Bobcats a 71-68 victory over York.
In total, the lead changed hands 16 times and the contest was tied on 11 more occasions, but the only lead change that mattered was the four point-swing late in the game.
Senior Quinton Dodson hit two foul shots at 4:58 to give the Bobcats (7-17, 5-12) a five-point cushion and at 3:17, Henson hit a layup as Frostburg led by four 67-63.
The Spartans (9-15, 5-12) rebounded behind two layups from Dalton Myers and a free throw from Blayde Reich that handed them a 68-67 advantage with 0:46 to play setting up Frostburg's win.
Frostburg led by as many as 12 points, 30-18, with 5:46 to play in the first half. The Bobcats even led by 10 at the break.
York (Pa.) quickly narrowed its deficit in the opening minutes of the second with a 12-0 run that put it ahead 40-38. Neither team led by more than four the rest of the way.
Four players finished in double figures for the Bobcats, behind a team-high 20 from senior Nick Smoot. Michael finished with 17 points and eight rebounds, while Henson had 10. Senior James Peters was the fourth in double figures with 12.
Matt Scamuffo led all players with 27 points, behind 11-of-13 foul shots. Dalton Myers added 19 points and eight rebounds for York.
Frostburg closes out its regular season on Saturday at Salisbury at 3:00 pm.
