SALISBURY, Md. – The Frostburg State men's basketball endured an 84-61 defeat at Salisbury that capped the regular season for both teams, Saturday afternoon.
Senior Nick Smoot led the Bobcats (7-18, 5-13) with 15 points behind three three-pointers and six rebounds. Senior James Peters added 10, four rebounds and three assists.
As a team, FSU shot nearly 45 percent from the floor on 25-of-58 attempts. However, Salisbury (20-5, 13-5) made 12 three-pointers and 26-of-33 free throws that helped it outscore Frostburg. The SU bench held a 51-17 advantage in scoring.
A slow start for Frostburg also hurt as it scored just 21 points in the first half.
Peters and freshman Edwin Cole hit back-to-back layups for Frostburg inside the first five minutes of the first half as it grabbed a 6-3 edge at 16:17.
With just over five minutes left in the opening half, Peters knocked down a three-pointer that pulled FSU to within 20-15. The Sea Gulls answered with a 14-2 run to close out the first half.
Smoot hit a layup that opened the second half scoring and cut Frostburg's deficit to 39-23, but Salisbury answered again with an 11-0 run that extended its lead to 50-23 at 15:22.
Frostburg was able to bring its deficit to 18 points, 67-49, when Smoot hit a three-pointer with 5:09 to play, but that was as close as FSU could manage.
