Bobcats Pick Up First Conference Win

HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Frostburg State volleyball team earned its first Capital Athletic Conference win of the season in a 3-0 sweep of Penn State Harrisburg, Friday evening.

The Bobcats (9-14, 1-3 CAC) dominated all three sets against the Lion's (6-13, 1-4 CAC), 25-19, 25-19, and 25-14. FSU also held the advantage in kills, 37-34, aces, 10-3, blocks, 8-2, assists, 35-32 and digs, 52-40.

Juniors Naya Cheatem and Zoe Harris each picked up 14 and 10 kills, respectively, while junior Madelyn Torres led the Bobcats in both blocks (5) and assists (33). Freshman Biamba Tshitenge also collected five blocks for FSU while classmate Kathryn Lough earned nine digs in the victory.

The first set started out fairly even between the hosts and visitors.  The set tied five times early on before FSU used a five-point rally to take the lead, 13-6. The Bobcats held an advantage for the rest of the set and scored five unanswered points to round out the set, 25-19.

In set two, the Lions managed to take an early 9-7 lead to open play, however the Bobcats rallied back to take over the lead, 12-11. PSH committed five straight errors that increased the Bobcat advantage even further, 17-12. A kill and a block from Tshitenge rounded out the final points for FSU as the Bobcats won set two, 25-19.

FSU jumped out to an early 7-3 lead over PSH in set three; however the Lions used a three-point rally to bring the score within one point, 7-6. The Bobcats remained relentless and used four-straight kills, three from Cheatem and one from Harris to go up, 14-9. FSU closed out the final set outscoring PSH, 8-1, to pick up its first CAC victory in a sweep over the hosts.  

The Bobcats will return to conference action tomorrow when they travel to York (Pa.) for a match set to start at 2:00 PM.
