ARLINGTON, Va. – A second-half rally fell short for the Frostburg State men's basketball team at Marymount (Va.), 84-62, Saturday afternoon.
Marymount (7-11, 4-7 CAC) led by as many as 13 points in the opening half behind an early 10-0 run, but FSU (6-12, 4-7 CAC) stormed back with a 13-2 rally to close in and tie the game at 29-29 with 2:06 before halftime.
Two free throws and a three-pointer from the Saints' Danny Ferry widened the gap back to five, 34-29, with 1:38 to go. Back-to-back shots from sophomore Tyler Michael and senior Shawn Henson brought the Bobcats back within one, but Ferry hit a trey with 11 seconds remaining to send the Saints into the locker room with a 37-33 lead at the intermission.
Both teams exchanged points in the opening minutes of the second half, but it was a decisive 21-2 run from the Saints that put the game out of reach for FSU.
The Bobcats clawed back with a 17-3 rally to come within 11, 71-60, with 3:25 ticking on the clock, but Marymount finished a perfect 7-for-7 at the line down the stretch to dash the Bobcats' comeback hopes, 84-62.
FSU was led by Michael with 16 points, while Henson added a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
Marymount's D'Ondre Stockman led all players with 20 points, while Ferry added 16.
