Women's Soccer Ties Gettysburg In Double Overtime

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Frostburg State women's soccer tied regionally ranked #9 Gettysburg, 2-2, in double overtime, Wednesday night.

This marks the Bobcats (5-5-1,1-0) first tie of the season, and second time playing extra minutes during their 2015 campaign. FSU held on to tie Gettysburg (4-1-3, 1-1) who received regional recongintion this week from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Mid-Atlantic Region poll.

The Bullet offense outshot FSU 28-13 during the match, however the Bobcat defense held strong and senior goalkeeper, Paige Gray had an impressive performance in goal, making 11 saves on the night.

Gettysburg scored early in the game when Hannah Theurer crossed the ball across the box to teammate Julia Ramsey who found the back of the net in the 10th minute to put the Bullets up 1-0.

It was the Bullets again who put points on the board in the 22nd minute of the first half when Ramsey found the upper left corner of the net for her second goal of the night and surged Gettysburg to a 2-0 lead.

However, the Bobcats proved resilient and junior Leah Yurko put FSU on the board at the 26:18 mark when she drilled a shot inside the left post unassisted to make it a 2-1 game. This marks Yurko's fifth goal of the season.

With seconds left in the first half, sophomore Melanie Bell crossed a ball from the right and found freshman Danielle Ferris who headed the ball in to tie the match, 2-2. This resulted in the final goal of the game and also Ferris's first collegiate goal.

The second half proved to be a defensive battle between the two teams, neither able to find the back of the net, and ended regulation in a 2-2 tie.

In the first overtime, the Bullets took charge and made three shots on goal, however Gray was able to stop each ball to lead the Bobcats into second overtime.

The Frostburg offense made two shots to the Bullets one shot during double overtime, however neither team could connect with the back of the net, ending in a 2-2 tie.
