FROSTBURG, Md. – The NCAA announced the 2015 Baseball Championship schedule late Sunday and Frostburg State will face Ramapo in the opening game this Friday, May 22. First pitch is slated for 10:00 am.
The Bobcats (41-7) earned their berth in the World Series after taking the Mideast Regional Championship late Saturday night with an 8-4 win over La Roche. Frostburg also defeated Washington & Jefferson (7-1), Shenandoah (7-2) and Heidelberg (9-6) on its way to the program's first regional title.
The Bobcats, ranked second in both the D3Baseball.com and ABCA polls, join seven schools in this year's NCAA Championship lineup, including Ramapo (32-14), SUNY Cortland (40-4), Webster (34-13), Trinity (Texas)(37-12), Emory (30-13), Wisconsin-La Crosse and Salisbury (33-4-1). The Capital Athletic Conference is the nation's only league with two participants in the World Series.
Frostburg is the first team in NCAA Division III this season to reach 41 wins and is one of six ranked teams in the championship.
Friday's meeting between Frostburg and Ramapo will be the first for the two programs. Ramapo advanced to the NCAA Championship after winning the New England Regional with a 6-5 victory over MIT on Saturday. It will be the Roadrunners second World Series appearance.
The winner of the Frostburg/Ramapo matchup will return to the field on Saturday, May 23 at 1:15 pm and will face the winner of SUNY Cortland and Webster. The loser of FSU/RC will play on Saturday at 10:00 am and will face the loser of Cortland/Webster in the championship's first elimination game.
The 2015 Baseball Championship will take place at Fox Cities Stadium in Appleton, Wisc. from May 22-27.
