YORK, Pa. – Frostburg State battled to a pair of early ties in its women's lacrosse match with 15
th-ranked York (Pa.), Wednesday. But in the end, the host Spartans pulled away for a 13-4 win over the visiting Bobcats.
Sophomore Molly Hart and sophomore Charlotte Hines each answered a pair of early goals from York as Frostburg (8-6, 2-4 CAC) was able to keep pace in the beginning of the first half with the nationally ranked Spartans.
Hart's 22
nd goal of the season came at 25:55 that tied the game at 1-1 after York's Jayme Verman scored just 22 seconds into the game. A little over two minutes later, Hines' 11 goal of the year evened things at 2-2 for Frostburg.
However, the Spartans (9-4, 4-1 CAC) ran off five-consecutive goals over the remainder of the first half and the first goal of the second half for a 7-2 edge.
FSU senior Jessica Jones ended the Spartans run with her 16
th of the season with 18:21 showing in the second half that closed the gap to 7-3.
York answered with back-to-back goals for a 9-3 advantage before Molly Hart found the net for the second time in the game, this time with 12:33 remaining in the second, to make the score 9-4.
The hosts sealed the win game's final four goals over the final 11:43, including two from Lily Damalouji.
York outshot Frostburg, 30-12 and controlled much of the game's tempo with a 13-6 advantage in draw controls. Damalouji led the Spartans with four goals, while Verman finished with goals and two assists.
Molly Hart led the Bobcats in scoring for the fourth time this season after scoring a pair of goals, one in each half. Senior Mallory Brunett led the team with four draw controls, while classmate Jessica Jones scooped up a team-high three ground balls. Sophomore Dylan Teitelbaum tied a season-high with 13 saves.
FSU returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Wesley at 3:00 pm.
