BUENA VISTA, Va. – For the second time this season, 14 or more Bobcats found the back of the net as the No. 17 Frostburg State men's lacrosse team cruised to a 31-4 victory over Southern Virginia, Wednesday night.
Frostburg (14-0, 5-0 CAC) was led by senior Devin Colegrove's six points (three goals, three assists), followed by classmates Greg Bourne (two goals, three assists) and Chris Rios' (three goals, two assists) five-point performances. In all, 20 Bobcats found themselves on the score sheet with 16 different players recording goals.
Frostburg led the Knights in every statistical category including shots (57-14), shots on goal (40-7), ground balls (45-21), face-offs won (25-13) and was 12-of-14 on clear attempts compared to SVU's 8-of-15.
Southern Virginia's leading scorer Casey Rich was held to just one goal, as he had the Knights' fourth and final goal of the game with 2:42 left to play in the fourth quarter.
Rios got the Bobcats on the board 1:40 into the game, but SVU (1-12, 0-6 CAC) answered back with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead. Frostburg followed up with three more goals, a second from Rios and two from sophomore Chase Cullison, for a 4-3 advantage after the first quarter.
The following two quarters saw FSU outscore Southern Virginia 21-0, with junior Nick Stailey picking up three of his four goals in just 1:12, from 12:29 to 11:17 in the third quarter.
The Bobcat underclassmen dominated the fourth quarter, with five of the six Frostburg goals coming from freshmen and the sixth from sophomore Brendan Krivak.
Junior Erik Geiser (11 ground balls) and sophomore Kyle Horak (9 ground balls) were both 12-of-17 at the face-off X for FSU. Junior goalkeepers Tom Kraemer and Taylor Schmitz combined for three saves in the crease.
The Knights were led by Russell Anderson's one goal and one assist while net minders Derek Lamb and Shawn Tikala combined for nine saves.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, April 11 when they take on No. 11 Salisbury at Bobcat Stadium at 12:00 pm.
