Women’s Lax Falls in Regular Season Finale at St. Mary’s (Md.)

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – It was a game of runs in the Bobcats' final conference regular season game before the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament as the Frostburg State women's lacrosse team fell to St. Mary's (Md.), 17-10, Saturday afternoon.

Senior Malory Brunett led FSU (9-7, 3-5 CAC) with four goals and a game-high five ground balls, eight draws and six caused turnovers. Sophomores Charlotte Hines and Megan Hart finished the day with two goals apiece.

Senior Emily Walker got Frostburg on the board just 2:31 into the game and FSU scored four of the next five goals to take a strong 5-1 lead with 12:36 to play before halftime. Brunett (25:04) and the trio of Hines (19:31), Megan Hart (15:44) and sophomore Molly Hart (12:36), all found the back of the net during that run for the Bobcats.

The Seahawks (12-4, 6-2 CAC) then netted six straight, between the final minutes of the first half and the opening minutes of the second, to take a slim 7-5 lead.
Following Erika Kopf's opening goal of the second half for St. Mary's, Brunett scored just 40 seconds later. Kopf added her third of the game four minutes later, but following a Seahawk yellow card, both Hines (21:41) and Brunett (20:59) added man-down goals to lock the game at 8-8.

St. Mary's then went on a 3-0 run, but Brunett added her fourth of the game and second man-down goal to cut the Bobcats' deficit to 11-9 with 14:42 to go.

A 4-0 run by the Seahawks increased the home team's lead to 15-9, but Megan Hart added her second tally with 6:55 to play, giving Frostburg hope with time winding down.

St. Mary's kept the pressure on the Bobcat defense, however, and netted the final two goals to come away with the final 17-10 victory.

The Bobcats caused 12 of the Seahawks' 21 turnovers and sophomore goalkeeper Dylan Teitelbaum picked up five saves in the loss.

Shelby Newman finished the day with seven goals and goaltenders Lexi Thorne and Kayla Dunn combined for five saves.

Frostburg State has wrapped up the sixth-seed in the upcoming 2015 CAC Tournament and will return to St. Mary's for the first round this coming Tuesday, April 21. A full tournament preview will be available later this weekend.
