Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

No. 18 Men’s Lax Stunned By Mary Washington

FROSTBURG, Md. – Despite two Bobcat goals in the final 35 seconds, the No. 18 Frostburg State men's lacrosse team fell to Mary Washington Wednesday night, 6-4, at Bobcat Stadium.

Juniors Tate Rolland (0:35) and Nick Stailey (0:14) worked to bring the Bobcats (14-2, 5-2 CAC) back into the game in the final minute of play, but thanks to a three-goal third quarter, the Eagles (6-7, 3-4 CAC) overcame the Bobcats in one of the final Capital Athletic Conference contests before the conference tournament.

Rolland and Stailey finished the game with two goals apiece, while seniors Chris Rios (two assists) and Devin Colegrove (one assist) dished out helpers.

UMW's Miles Davis scored the only goal of the first quarter at the 9:56 mark to give the Eagles and early 1-0 lead.

Rios found Rolland just 45 seconds into the second quarter for the equalizer, but Mary Washington's Jack Bondurant gave UMW its second one-goal lead, 2-1, with 11:42 to go before the half. Not to be deterred, Colegrove found Stailey to keep the game knotted at 2-2 heading into halftime.

Following the intermission, the Eagles went on a 4-0 run that lasted the entire third quarter and into the fourth to take a cushy 6-2 lead.

With the final minute winding down, Rolland and Stailey found the back of the net but time expired before the Bobcats could continue their late-game rally.

Sophomore Chris Santina picked up a game-high six ground balls while sophomore face-off specialist Erik Geiser was 9-of-12 at the X for Frostburg. Junior goalkeeper Tom Kraemer finished with 13 saves in the crease.

Frostburg led in shots (35-30), ground balls (40-25) and caused 15 of Mary Washington's 22 turnovers.

Greg Smith led the Eagles with one goal and two assists while goalkeeper Colin Bressan finished the day with a game-high 19 saves.

FSU returns to action Saturday, April 18 as it travels to St. Mary's (Md.) for both teams' final conference showdown before the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament. Face-off is slated for 3:00 pm.
