Stailey Nets Five As Men’s Lax Downs Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Junior attack Nick Stailey paced both teams with five goals as the Frostburg State men's lacrosse team downed Lebanon Valley, 15-6. The Bobcats improve to 2-0, while the Dutchmen fall to 0-1 on the season.

Seven Bobcats found the back of the net, with two goals each from junior Tate Rolland (2 goals, 3 assists), senior Greg Bourne (2g, 3a), freshman Ethan Aikin (2g), and junior Spenser Love (2g). Senior Devin Colegrove (1g, 6a) and freshman Nick Pontorno (1g) both scored one.

Stailey opened up scoring for the Bobcats 3:31 into the game after finding a pass from Colegrove and goals from Aikin and Rolland put FSU up early, 3-0, in the first quarter.

With 1:52 to play before the first intermission, Klayton Garman finished a pass from Brett Kudiak to bring the game within two.

Love gave the Bobcats their second three-goal lead with 10:47 before halftime, but the Dutchmen's Matt Aldridge cut the lead back down to two and Frostburg led 4-2 at the half.

Stailey had the first two goals of the third quarter, the first unassisted and the second coming off a helper from Rolland. Rolland then added his second of the game with 13:22 to go when he buried a pass from Bourne.

Lebanon Valley found its footing a minute later as Koty Keefer brought the game within four, 7-3, in favor of the Bobcats. The Stailey-Colegrove combination paid off again just 12 seconds later to give FSU a five-goal lead, but Keefer found the back of the net for the second time to keep the game within four.

The junior-senior duo added a third goal with 6:48 to play but 41 seconds later Mason Hoff found Garman to add a tally for the Dutchmen, 9-5.

After a 30-second offside call penalized Lebanon Valley, Bobcat freshman Nick Pontorno took advantage of the man-up situation and, with help from senior Chris Rios, gave FSU a 10-5 lead with 4:46 left in the third quarter.

Frostburg finished the third quarter with tallies from Colegrove and Love, and opened the fourth quarter with two straight from Bourne to put the Bobcats up 14-5. With 3:19 left in the game, Hoff added the Dutchmen's sixth goal but Aikin finished a pass from Colegrove to give the red and black its final 15-6 mark.

FSU took advantage of the Dutchmen's 22 turnovers to hold the advantage on shots (37-25), but both teams finished with 22 ground balls. The Bobcats also held a slim advantage in face-offs (13-of-24) with junior Erik Geiser finishing 10-of-16.

Junior goalkeeper Tom Kraemer had 11 saves in the crease for the Bobcats.

Keefer and Garman each had two goals from the Dutchmen while Hoff and Aldridge added one. Eric Wilcoxson and Kevin Masterson combined for eight saves, with Wilcoxson recording the loss.

The Bobcats play host to Mount Union in the 2015 home-opener on Wednesday at 4:00 p.m.
