Four Second-Half Goals Propel Women’s Soccer Past Southern Virginia

FROSTBURG, Md. – A four-goal second-half rally powered the Frostburg State women's soccer team past Southern Virginia in Capital Athletic Conference action, Tuesday evening at Bobcat Stadium.

The Bobcats (10-6-3, 6-1-2 CAC) used a 13-2 shot advantage in the final 45 minutes of play to ameliorate a slow first half.

Six different FSU players made the stat sheet for the Bobcats, with the hosts putting up a goal in the first 52 seconds of the second half. Freshman Anais Ventura found classmate Danielle Ferris to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead.

Just over ten minutes later, senior Brooke Longo found Ferris open at the top of the 18-yard box and a misplaced kick from the Southern Virginia defense gave the Bobcats their second goal of the game.

Longo then found sophomore Melanie Bell four minutes later, giving FSU a cushy 3-0 advantage.

Junior Jessi Martz rounded out scoring for Frostburg after capitalizing on a drop pass 20 yards out from fellow junior Leah Yurko at the 73:24 mark.

Senior goalkeeper Paige Gray had two saves in the victory while FSU held the advantage in shots (22-5), shots on goal (13-2), and corner kicks (6-0).

Savannah Uri posted nine saves between the pipes for the Knights (4-14, 1-8 CAC) and shared time with Emily Weymouth.
