FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team won in double overtime over CAC conference foe St. Mary's (Md.), Saturday evening.
The Bobcats (9-4-1, 3-2-1) powered past the Seahawks (6-7-1, 2-3) to win a 2-1 victory in the 106
th minute of the match.
St. Mary's made a goal early in the first half when Nick Tait pushed passed the Bobcat defense to score in the 5
th minute of the game to put St. Mary's ahead, 1-0.
However, the Bobcats did not back down, with nine seconds remaining in the half, freshman Guy Nabo found the back of the net to tie the game 1-1 going into half time. Nabo was assisted by junior Jonathan Lippitt.
This marks Nabo's ninth goal of the season.
Defense was key in the second half for both teams, as St. Mary's took eight shots to the Bobcats seven. Junior goalkeeper Hassan Mostafa made six saves in the second half to keep the Bobcats alive and the end of regulation remained a 1-1 tie.
Freshman Kelvin Tata scored the game winner for the Bobcats in the 105
th minute of the game when he scored off a rebound to knock one into the net unassisted. Tata has scored four goals for the Bobcats this season.
The Seahawks goalkeeper Ben Meyers made five saves on the night, while Mostafa made eight and walked away with the victory.
The Bobcat men will return to action when they face Penn State-Harrisburg Wednesday, October 21 for a game at home at 7:00 pm.
