FROSTBURG, Md. – Frostburg State rallied for a lead at halftime, but saw that evaporate in the second half in a 75-53 loss to St. Mary's, Wednesday.
The Bobcats (6-6, 2-3 CAC) fought their way to a 32-29 lead at intermission after a first half that had 10 lead changes and five ties. Freshman Tyler Michael hit back-to-back baskets, including a three-pointer with 41 seconds showing to help FSU to a halftime cushion.
The second half was a different story as St. Mary's (7-3, 4-1 CAC) outscored Frostburg 46-21 behind 65.2 percent shooting from the floor (15-of-23).
Senior Tyler Campbell converted a tough layup to open second half action for the Bobcats and a 34-29 advantage. However, moments later the Seahawks collected a 15-2 scoring surge for a 51-38 edge with 13:29 to play. The visitors extended their lead to 63-43 with just over eight minutes to play and they cruised from there.
Junior Nick Smoot led Frostburg with 13 points, followed by senior Jabari Kamau with 11 points and eight rebounds. FSU finished just 18-of-52 (34.6%) from the field.
St. Mary's Tanner Brooks posted 19 points and nine rebounds to lead all players in both categories. Troy Spurrier added 15 points and the duo combined for four of the team's six three-pointers.
Frostburg returns to action on Saturday at Marymount at 4:00 pm.
