Bobcats Fall Behind Late Marymount Surge

ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount University collected a 73-66 win over visiting Frostburg State, Saturday afternoon behind a late surge that broke the game's sixth tie with just 4:06 to play in regulation.

The loss hands the Bobcats their fourth-consecutive defeat as they settle to 6-7 overall on the season and 2-4 in league action. The Saints, who used a 10-0 scoring run down the stretch, improved their record to 11-2 overall and 5-1 in the CAC.

Frostburg State hung tough for much of the second half, but was unable to grab the lead despite tying the score four times inside the final 10 minutes of play. Junior Breon Powell converted a traditional three-point play with 4:06 showing behind a layup and free throw that knotted the game at 59 apiece.

Marymount answered with the game's next 10 points for a 69-59 lead with just 54 seconds to play. Junior Nick Smoot scored five points inside the final minute and freshman Tyler Michael hit a layup with 14 seconds left to pull Frostburg within five before the final horn.

The game featured six ties and four lead changes, but Marymount outpaced FSU with 19 free throws (19-of-28) and eight three-pointers (8-of-18).

Frostburg took the lead just once in each half; a dunk by senior Jabari Kamau in the first and a layup from junior Jerel Carter, both within the first four minutes of action.

Carter posted a team-high 15 points on 6-of-8 (75%) shooting, while Smoot added 12 and Powel finished with 11.
